Introduction and notes by Herbert O. Brayer. Limited to 500 copies, of which this is 312. Briefly inscribed on the limitation page by Garnet M. and Herbert O. Brayer. The intriguing autobiography of the rancher who made history by performing the longest cattle drive in America ever recorded. With his partner Washington Malone, Tom Candy Ponting drove a herd of Texas Longhorn cattle to New York all the way from Texas in 1853-1854. After this incredible feat, Ponting settled in Illinois as a prominent cattle rancher, becoming friends with such figures as Abraham Lincoln, Buffalo Bill, and P. T. Barnum. Small bump to fore edges of both boards with small tears to paper, slight rubbing to spine tips, else near fine in custom mylar cover Brown cloth-backed cream boards, spine title in gilt.
