About this Item
Free endpapers slightly embrowned, but a nice copy in dustwrapper, with Book Society wraparound band. Inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "Peter & Vicky Macnair best wishes from John Heath-Stubbs". "Generally speaking, Mr. Heath-Stubbs needs to loosen up and shed his formality and inhibitions, for from time to time a goat-foot peeps out and there can be heard the beat of an honest heart under the scholar's musty gown. When he can face being himself, and speaks as person to person, all masks thrown aside, Mr. Heath-Stubbs can write simply and affectingly of love" (Jon Silkin, anonymous review in The Times Literary Supplement). Peter Macnair was a barrister, later a judge; he married in 1952 Vickie Reynolds. Seller Inventory # T100331
