Dark brown cloth hard cover with gilt titles and decorations on spine and front board. There is minor wear to spine ends and mildly bumped corners with generalised patchy loss of colour to covers. Quite clean interior with (viii) 237 untrimmed pages. The book is signed by the author on the first blank page - C.O.M. from WM, Aug 1923; with provenance the book was the property of of the late author and by descent of his family. I assume C.O.M is the author's brother Charles Osmond Maugham (1865-1958), or possibly his daughter, Maugham's niece Cynthia. This is a new impression published in December 1922 a month after the 1st publication in November 1922 and is signed with the author's initials, and is in good to very good condition.
