In addition, there is a Preface by Roger Peyrefitte, and a list of captions to the cartoons in English. (The French captions are written on the lithographs by Vertes). Limited to 331 copies, of which 278 copies are numbered from 24 to 301, of which this is number 221. INSCRIBED BY VERTES ON THE HALF-TITLE, WITH A DRAWING OF A DOVE WITH AN OLIVE LEAF IN ITS BILL. Internally fine. The portfolio, of cloth-backed boards, is soiled and worn, and torn in places on the hinges, but has protected the lithographs perfectly. Vertes won Academy Awards for his costumes and design for the 1952 film Moulin Rouge.
