About the Author

Patricia McCausland-Gallo was born in Barranquilla, Colombia and studied food and nutrition at Louisiana State University. She then went on to study as a pastry chef, first in France and then at the American Institute of Baking in Kansas, going on to open her own wholesale bakery. Patricia owes her love of food and baking to her mother, a pastry chef who owned the family bakery for more than 40 years. Here she started baking and decorating pastries and cakes from the age of 13, learning how to smell, taste, prepare and enjoy the wide variety of aromas, flavours and colours of the foods that came in from all over the world to the port of Barranquilla. Every Sunday, at PatriciaÆs Venezuelan grandfather?s house, the family would meet for an afternoon in the pool, and to eat the typical foods of Venezuela and Colombia; finger foods served on the terrace for permanently wet children, and a long table set out for lunch for the adults. In 2001 Patricia moved to Panama where she still lives, writing cook books and regular food articles for Colombian newspapers and journals. Her book Passion for Coffee was awarded a silver medal by the Independent Publisher Book Awards in 2008.
