About this Item

Staples a little rusty, some covers a little marked or dusty. The partners of the Philadelphia firm of George S. MacManus in the earliest catalogue were Clarence Wolf, David Holmes and James Jaffe, in the last just Wolf and Jaffe; Wolf continues in business, now in Bryn Mawr. 257, Literary Manuscripts, Autograph Letters, Original Drawings, is quite grand and in Simsian taste, with a drawing by Max Beerbohm and manuscripts and letters of Arnold Bennett, E.F. Benson, A.E. Coppard, Gissing and Maugham. 269, A Selection of Seventy-Five Rare Books, has a Rosenberg collection, $12,500, and an Edward Thomas notebook, $10,000. Holmes first met Sims in 1976, the year after he joined MacManus, and became a close friend in the trade, and ultimately Sims's publisher. Seller Inventory # GS100123
