Describing the duties, prospects, and pleasures of a young sailor in the mercantile marine with a preface by J R Diggle. Olive green cloth hard cover with gilt titles and decorations on front cover and spine, with only minor cover wear mostly confined to spine ends, and at the lower spine an almost completely removed white 'sticker'. Quite clean interior with viii, 268 relatively browned pages with advertisements at rear. There is a book plate inside front cover - A gift of M Oppenheim (pioneer historian of English naval administration, 1853-1927) in 1919 to Bath Public Reference Library, but none of the usual lending library labels. This scarce 1st edition published in 1898 is in very good condition. Seller Inventory # 003045
