About this Item
Wrappers. Spine faded. From the library of the bookseller and crime writer George Sims, with his manuscript notes of train times, prices achieved &c - evidence, if needed, of Sims's inability to leave the "rare book game", even after having formally retired. Lots 300-658 are from the collection of Stanley Scott (1910-1990), who left his large collection to Dulwich Picture Gallery, with the option of selling it if they wished. Retaining "a small group of pictures and books", they sent the rest to Lawrence of Crewkerne. Sims seems to have been an active viewer, and, apparently, bidder. The collection is rich in Eric Gill and St Dominic's Press, Beardsley, Eleanor Farjeon (including "a large collection of correspondence" with Scott), the Meynells, and many of the small presses Sims favoured.
