And, after a brief overview of the practice, the book reads like a "believe it or not" with plates and descriptions of various disfigurements and maladies from gangrene and leprosy to syphilis and physical deformity. OCLC cites holdings only at the Library of Congress, University of Chicago, and Free Library of Philadelphia. 8vo, 302pp. Photos, plates, illustrations, diagrams. Publisher's dark cloth stamped in gilt. Some rubbing to corners and spine ends. Large plate from B.L. Wrench, funeral director to ffep.
