The 48th and 49th volumes of the 1st edition of The Works of English Poets with prefaces, biographical and critical, by Samuel Johnson. Two brown leather bound hard covers with only minor wear mostly confined to spine ends. Volume I includes frontispiece of Thomson and 253 pages of Thomson's poems including The Seasons. Volume II has 324 pages of the poems of James Thomson (Britannia), James Hammond (Love Elegies) and William Collins (Oriental eclogues). Published in 1779 these two 1st edition volumes of poetry are in very good condition.
