First edition, mixed state. Octavo: xiv, [2], 624 p. with illustrations by H.K. Browne (collated complete). In a one-half red morocco over marbled paper binding by Potter & Sons, with elaborate gilt stamping, five raised bands, and marbled endpapers and edges. Typical toning and mild foxing to the plates and opposing leaves. Expert paper repairs to the margin of a few leaves. The boards are a bit edgeworn, with some scuffing to the marbled paper; else very good. Originally published serially from May 1849 to November 1850, David Copperfield is the novel that draws most closely from Charles Dickens's own life. Its eponymous hero, orphaned as a boy, grows up to discover love and happiness, heartbreak and sorrow amid a cast of eccentrics, innocents, and villains. Seller Inventory # 77440
