About this Item
616 pages and 8 content pages. Front and rear covers detached, pages 25-28 and 119-124 ripped out, some passages on pages 24, 29 and 118 crossed out, wormholing on pages 37-84 and 234 to 273, old bookplate on front endpaper. The pages that are ripped out and the crossed out passages are from Ovid's armours and "To a Lady" by Charles Hopkins. These were obviously considered rude. A defective copy but of great rarity. Joseph Addison (1672 ? 1719) was an English essayist, poet, playwright and politician. He was the eldest son of The Reverend Lancelot Addison. His name is usually remembered alongside that of his long-standing friend Richard Steele, with whom he founded The Spectator magazine. Seller Inventory # 4555
