About this Item
Blue wrappers. Edge of upper cover faintly creased. Edition limited to 125 copies, of which this is one of 100 numbered copies "for sale". Letters dated 1898-1930 to the academic lawyer and Bostonian, Professor of Jurisprudence at Oxford 1926-9; presented to the National Library of Scotland by Mrs Francis Ashburner Richards, widow of Ashburner's nephew. "Dear Ashburner, Will you give me the pleasure of your company at dinner at Kettner's (Church St., Soho) on Friday Nov. 29th [1901] at 7 o'clock? In order that you may not be lured into any horrors for which you are unprepared, I should explain that, as I do not belong to any club, after dinner we adjourn to a box in the adjacent Palace (the most proper of all music-halls, not meet to be called a music-hall), and that when the Palace closes there is no refuge but Bow St. police station . . .".
