Documentary film-maker and collector extraordinary, Jonathan Gili (1943-2004) was also a quirky small-press publisher who deployed his eye for design not only for books as grand as John Betjeman's Metro-Land (1977, with lithographs by Glynn Boyd Harte) but also for calendars for his sometime school-friend David Game's group of tutorial colleges, founded in 1974. Latterly, he used his own artful photographs; his early calendars deployed a talented team of illustrators. The six illustrators for this catalogue are each allotted two months: the youngest, Chloe Cheese (1952-), the oldest, Harold Jones (1904-1992) - best loved for Lavender's Blue.
