Item description from seller

Halle, octavo (21 cm), two volumes: [frontispiece portrait, viii, 482 p. (1864); x, 454 p. (1870)]. Both volumes contain the half-title pages. ***CONTENT: Carl Ritter (1779-1859) was a celebrated German geographer and educator. Along with Alexander von Humboldt, Ritter is regarded as one of the founders of modern geography. These volumes constitute his earliest comprehensive biography, written by his brother-in-law, Gustav Kramer. This work is primarily based on his letters. ***CONDITION: This is a complete, VG+ set in two separate volumes, and bound in recent marbled-paper boards with decorative printed-paper spine labels. The covers and backstrips are like new, with no evidence of use. Joints and hinges solid, bindings very firm. Save for scattered areas of light foxing, the text pages are typically fresh, clean and bright. Volume one has yellow-colored page edges and a silk-ribbon bookmark. The only evidence of previous ownership is an 1871 signature on one endpaper, and sparse highlighting. This is a handsome set of a scarce publication. Schönes exemplar. Not in BMNH. International shipping will be extra for these volumes, but only at my cost.
