ARCHIVO PIAZZOLLA - PIAZZOLLA ARCHIVE (bilingüe) inglés -español. This book is an analytical and biographical recounting of the oeuvre of Piazzolla, guided by the most important archival material in existence (newspaper articles, letters, programs, records and photographs.) This makes it an illustrated guide to both the contradictory reception of Tango in Argentina; its world-wide reception as one of the only truly subversive styles of music to emerge from Argentina and its influence over those who came to influence it in return. In this book, we come to observe the creative trajectory of Astor, focusing particularly on the uniqueness of his musical style and also on his social reception ("music is not an intellectual game, it is what sits at the centre of society"). It is the story of music as a battle-ground from the initial polemical debate of whether his style is or isn't really "tango" to his refusal to conform itself to either classical or popular categories, compiled with a tense balance between his 'tanguera' drive and his formal, academic training. It is the story of an unwavering artistic ethic defended with explosive statements in the face of indifference and the attacks suffered in his early years. It is not, therefore, simply an accumulation of documents, but an attempt to wake us from our own lethargy, and to reach a fundamental truth about Piazzolla s archive. This book is an unedited production which illuminates different parts of Piazzolla s work to us, creating a comprehensive collection of his career and his art. This book carries within it, various surprises - among them, an unedited and never before released show of Piazzolla s. An indispensable document for any appreciator of Piazzolla s work. Ástor Piazzolla was an Argentine bandoneon player and composer. Considered one of the most important musicians of the 20th century, he was also one of the most famous composers of Tango in the world. His body of work revolutionized the traditional tango scene with a style called new tango or avant-garde tango, incorporating elements of jazz and classical music. A virtuoso of the bandoneon, he often performed his own composition with a wide variety of different ensembles. In 1992, the American music critic Stephen Holden described Piazzolla as the most important composer of tango in the world. In the final ten years of his life, he composed more than 300 tangos and over 50 film scores, including Henry IV by Marco Bellocchio, Lumiere by Jeanne Moreau, Armagueddon by Alain Delon, Sur, and El exilio de Gardel by Fernando Solanas. In February 1993, Piazzolla was nominated posthumously for a Grammy award in Los Angeles for Oblivion in the category of Best Instrumental Composition. 510 pages. 28 x 28 cm- 2.700 kg. unpacked.
