September 1803 als der Sohn wohlhabender bürgerlichen Eltern in München geboren und erhielt hier auf dem sogenannten " alten ", damals einzigen Gymnasium seine wissenschaftliche Vorbildung, besonders…durch die Lehrer Johann Fröhlich und Joseph Kopp zu philologischen Studien angeregt und angeleitet. Schon als Schüler der obersten Classe fand er Zutritt zu dem von Friedr. Thiersch geleiteten philologischen Seminar. Nach Beendigung seiner Gymnasialstudien (1821) besuchte er zunächst das unter Thiersch's Leitung stehende Lyceum und legte hier 1823 das Examen für das höhere Schulfach ab. 1825 ging er nach Berlin, wo Boeckh und Immanuel Bekker seine Lehrer wurden. Durch die Bearbeitung der von der Berliner Facultät für 1826 gestellten Preisaufgabe " Rhetoricorum apud Graecos studiorum artisque ipsius historia ".errrang er den ersten Preis; diese Arbeit, welche die besondere Anerkennung der facultät fand, wurde die Grundlage für ein größeres Werk, das unter dem Titel " Sive artium scriptores ab initiis usque ad editos Aristotelis de rhetorica libros " 1818 erschien.
