Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Fine. 1st Edition, International Edition. Book Condition, Very Good: Bumping and wear to the binding's back strip tale as well as corners. A tear in the binding's rear board, creasing also. Elaborate blind stamping remains in wonderful shape, and is now protected by a plastic slipcover. Top of text block st…ained by dust, marks elsewhere but mostly clean, pages well preserved for the book's age. Faint foxing through endpapers, a tear into edge of frontispiece. Otherwise pages are excellent. Clean and tidy, tightly bound. Other illustrations are immaculate. The first UK edition hardback of The Wolves and the Lamb, published by Ward, Lock & Co., is an exceptionally scarce and desirable title, particularly as the author's first detective novel. Copies in good condition are rare, making this edition a noteworthy acquisition for serious collectors of British mystery and early 20th-century genre works. The Wolves and the Lamb marks J. S. Fletcher's debut in detective fiction, weaving a compelling mystery that challenges reader and investigator alike. With intricate plotting and atmospheric prose, Fletcher introduced a memorable entry into early crime literature that paved the way for his later work. International Edition.

Fresh off the boat from the West Indies, twenty-one-year-old Richard Shrewsbury arrives in London with a fortune of 300.000 pounds and a letter of introduction to his late father's old friend, Mr. Leverton. With promises of a luxurious flat, a trustworthy valet, and the best tailors in town, he positions himself as Richard's indispensable ally-all while calculating how much he can siphon from the boy's inheritance before anyone notices.
