Originally published in the US by Coward-McCann in 1940. The boards, which are stiff card, have a small mark to the rear panel, yellowing to the spine and some discolouration around the edges but are otherwise clean and unmarked. Page edges are browned. Previous owner's name in pencil to the front free endpaper and there are a few light crosses in pencil at the top of several poems - these could be easily erased. Browning to the endpapers but the pages are otherwise unmarked. The jacket has browning to the spine which is chipped at the top and bottom. The front panel has a two inch closed tear to the top corner with another smaller tear next to it and two other small closed tears towards the top left corner. The rear panel has a half-inch closed tear to the top edge and there is some chipping to the top edge of the rear panel and at the corners. Cover photograph by J. Dixon-Scott. First printing.
