Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book takes readers on a captivating journey through the history of the Church of Crathie, nestled in the picturesque Scottish Highlands. The author weaves together fascinating historical accounts of the parish and its ministers, from the era of the Reformation to the early 20th century, tracing the evolution of a community shaped by its deep religious ties. The book delves into the rich tapestry of Scottish religious history, offering insights into the lives of the clergy who served the parish, their trials, triumphs, and their roles within the wider context of a nation undergoing significant political and social change. Readers will gain a deeper understanding of the impact of the Jacobite rebellions on the area, the struggles of early ministers to sustain their charges, and the enduring strength of the Church of Scotland in the Highlands. The author's meticulous research and engaging prose bring to life the stories of the individuals who helped shape the parish, illuminating the spirit of a community connected by faith and a shared history. This book is a compelling reminder of the enduring power of religion and its impact on the lives of those who lived, worked, and worshipped in a remote and beautiful corner of Scotland. A handsome volume and excellent example of Scottish printing with some fine designed pictorial advertisements. Rare is the place in Royal Deeside that escapes Queen Victoria's influence - but even in this land of royal patronage, Crathie, and utterly captivating village, has rather special royal history. The nest cottages that populate this tiny speck of a place were built for the workers of the Balmoral estate. And, to sustain their religious fortitude with the same rigour as the residents maintained the walls of Balmoral itself, a pretty grey granite church was added in 1895. The last resting place of John Brown, Victoria's favourite ghillie, Crathie Church remains, to this day, a royal place of worship.
