Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Cloth, very good. Foreword by Eugene Manlove Rhodes. First edition. Adams One-Fifty 42. Guns 530: Scarce in 1st edition. This book has become a standard work and is reliable on most points. The author also corrects the legend about Wild Bill Hickok s fight with McCanles. He credits (Billy) the Kid with killing Morton and Baker, but admits that the whole gang was shooting at Carlyle when he tried to escape. He only credits the Kid with killing eight men.He agrees that Wyatt Earp never arrested Ben Thompson in Ellsworth and says that in all his research he has never found any evidence for it. Neither have I, except in Lake s account, and in those of writers who have since followed Lake blindly. Greene, Fifty Best Books on Texas : despite that trivial sounding title is a reliable, excellent book. Dobie p. 141: Excellent survey of codes and characters. Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very good. First Edition. Biographical sketches of Western American gunfighters. "This book has become a standard work and is reliable on most points"?Adams, Six-guns, 530. xx, 441, [1: blank] pages. First edition (first printing). A very good copy in medium weave blue cloth stamped in black. Lacking the dust jacket. This copy is inscribed, "for Herbert G. Miles, with the cordial hope that the contents will reflect, perhaps expand, the Denver history he knows. Eugene Cunningham. El Paso, March 9, 1935 [brand mark]". It appears that someone erased the recipient's initials, written in pencil below the inscription. [NB: This book is found in (at least) two types of cloth (a medium and a fine weave blue cloth), two colors of stamping on the spine and front board (black and gold), and two, or possibly three, dust jacket colors (light blue and yellow; a darker gray blue is known to your cataloguer, but he is uncertain if this is a different color or simply natural darkening with age). This light blue jacket has the circular graphic image of two hands and a pistol centered on the front panel. The last line of text on the back cover begins, "put it away." None of the standard references for this title describe any of the variants. I suspect that these are actually separate printings, but much work would be required to put them in order.

"This book has become a standard work and is reliable on most points"?Adams, Six-guns, 530. xx, 441, [1: blank] pages. First edition (first printing). A near fine copy with a bit of spotting and shelfwear to the publisher's coarse blue cloth stamped in gilt. The price-clipped yellow dust jacket is missing small pieces from the edges and more at the top and bottom of the spine, affecting the title. Uncommon. [NB: This book is found in (at least) two typles of cloth (a medium and a fine weave blue cloth), two colors of stamping on the spine and front board (black and gold), and two, or possibly three, dust jacket colors (light blue and yellow; a darker gray blue is known to your cataloguer, but he is uncertain if this is a different color or simply natural darkening with age). The yellow jacket has the circular image of two hands and a gun shifted to the right edge. The last text line on the back panel of the jacket begins "as a reference." None of the standard references for this title describe any of the variants.
