Embossed Fabric. Condition: Poor. No Jacket. 1st. A really unusual book. The Poets Song by Tennyson, Field Flowers by Campbell and Pilgrim Fathers by Mrs Hemans. !8 colour lithographs with a paragraph of verse. Each page faced by a thinner blank page. Each section having a colour title in the same manner. Condition not so good.…First title page missing along with its blank facing page. Pages 2 & 3 have tears are detached and a bit grubby. Covers well worn with splits to spine. Light foxing to many pages. Most illuminated pages still bright in colour. David Brand (illustrator).

Her illustrations i Three Gems in One Setting were inspired by the work of Noel Humphreys and Owe Jones, as well as by the style of manuscript prayer books. The book consists 18 delicate chromolithographic plates by David Brand, illustrating poems by Alfred Tennyson, "The Poet's Song"; Thomas Campbell, "Field Flowers"; and Felicia Dorothea Hemans, "Pilgrim Fathers." The purple cloth binding feature deep insets and an arabesque design, noted by Ball to reflect a Moorish influence. An inset, color-printed only depicts a rural evening scene and is different from the typographic example photographed in McLean's Victorian Publisher's Book-Bindings in Cloth and Leather. Spine and lower edge of bind faded. Some fading to cloth binding and rubbing to joints, all edges gilt. Expertly recased. Ink gift inscription dated 1862, from a husband to his wif on blank leaf facing title page. Some foxing, otherwise a very good, clean, bright copy. (40580).
