Hard back binding in publisher's original scarlet cloth covers, elaborate gilt design with title and author lettering to the spine, lemon end papers. 8vo. 7'' x 4½''. Contains [xvi] 563 [32] [vii] printed pages of text with paper guarded monochrome steel engravings throughout. Repaired snagging of the cloth across the spine ends, whilst the covers are secure to the text, the front free end paper is cracked, foxing present around the edges of the frontispiece, the rest of the plates are clear and without any age toning or foxing. Gilt on the page edges is scratched in a couple places, but still quite presentable. Rear hinge is cracked, but binding still solid. Quite a handsome book in spite of the flaws mentioned. Steel engravings. Each page of text is surrounded by a mono-tone decorative border. There are notes for every poem at the rear of the book. ; 23B; 7-3/4 x 5-1/2"; 624 pages.
