Black Half Leather Binding with Bright Gilt Decoration and Lettering to Spine. Blue cloth covered boards. Undated, Late 19th or early 20th C. Edited by Richard Garnett (British Museum 1851-1899), Leon Vallee (Bibliotheque Nationale, France), Alois Brandl (Imperial University Germany) and Donald G. Mitchell (Yale University, USA). Special Contributions by: Sir Walter Besant, Paul Bourget, Ferdinand Brunetiere, Edward Dowden, Dean Farrar, Edmund Gosse, Bret Harte, Henry James, Andrew Lang, Maurice Maeterlinck, John P. Mahaffey, Armando Placido Valdes, Pasquale Villari, Comte. E Melchior de Vogue, Henry Smith Williams and Emile Zola. Pages and Plates in very nice, clean condition. Slight wear to leather, mainly at tops & bottoms of spines. Blue cloth has some loss of colour and a little fraying (see photos). Set weighs over 20 Kilos so Postage will be extra. Marbled Boards and Leather corners. Top page edges Gilt. Marbled Endpapers. Each book has a Colour Frontispiece and Title Page printed in Red and Black. Illustrated with B&W Plates, mostly portraits of the Authors. Includes Kipling. Trollope, Beecher Stowe, Zola, Pushkin, Defoe, Spenser, Charles Kingsley, Shakespeare, Marlowe, Milton, Sir Walter Raleigh, Goethe, Thackeray, Dickens, Edgar Allan Poe and many others. 9 1/2" Tall. Some wear to leather and some scrapes, mainly at corners. Spine colour faded to pleasant brown. A little faint foxing to first and last few pages but only an occasional spot elsewhere. Hinges sound.
