Cooper, medical director of the American Birth Control League, died yesterday at his home at the Madison Square Hotel after a year's illness. He was born in Bolton, England, Aug. 8, 1880, and came to the United States with his family in 1886, settling in Fall River, Mass. Deciding to enter the ministry at an early age, he went to the Philadelphia Bible School, conducted by the Society of Friends, from which he graduated in 1903. After preaching in Lynn, Mass., he decided to equip himself to become a foreign medical missionary and he entered the Boston University Medical School, from which he graduated in 1912. After practicing his profession at Falmouth, Mass., for several months, in 1913 he was appointed a medical missionary to Foochow, China, by the American Board of Foreign Missions of the Congregational Church. Before leaving for the Orient, Dr. Cooper married Miss Ruth Quimby of Dorchester, Mass., who went with him to China as a missionary. She died two years later. At the outbreak of the World War Dr. Cooper, who could speak Chinese, entered the service of the British Government and took parties of coolies from China to France, by way of Canada. Upon their arrival they were employed as laborers behind the British lines on the western front. After the armistice Dr. Cooper returned to Swampscott, Mass., later settling in Boston. In 1925 he came to New York as the American Birth Control League's medical director, a post he held at the time of his death. In his work for the league he traveled 40,000 miles and addressed 300 medical societies. His interest in the subject began during his years as an obstetrician in the Boston slums fifteen years ago." Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - 'Technique of Contraception: The Principles and Practice of Anti-Conceptional Methods' is a comprehensive medical treatise exploring the science and clinical application of birth control. Written by James Fryer Cooper, this work serves as an exhaustive guide to the physiological, chemical,…and mechanical means of preventing conception as understood during the early twentieth century. The text delves into the medical necessity and ethical considerations surrounding reproductive health, offering a detailed analysis of various contraceptive devices and formulations available at the time. It provides clinicians and scholars with a systematic approach to the principles of family planning, addressing both the biological mechanisms of human reproduction and the practicalities of clinical application. Cooper explores the development of these methods while advocating for a scientific and standardized approach to a subject that was then often a point of significant social and legal debate. As a significant historical document in the field of public health, this book reflects the evolution of medical thought regarding reproductive autonomy and maternal welfare. It remains a crucial resource for researchers interested in the history of medicine, the global birth control movement, and the sociological shift toward modern family planning practices. Its clear, clinical prose offers a window into the professionalization of contraceptive care during a transformative era. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. This work was reproduced from the original artifact, and remains as true to the original work as possible. Therefore, you may see the original copyright references, library stamps (as most of these works have been housed in our most important libraries around the world), and other notations in the work. This work is in the public domain in the United States of America, and possibly other nations.
