A collection of essays on auditory and visual space perception - a field of experimental psychology (at the time of publication). The first part addresses the localization of sound with historical background and experimental theories as they relate to biology, orientation, and distance. The second part addresses visual space perceptions - with a particular focus on optical illusions. Very good in original brown cloth boards with gilt title to spine. Arthur Henry Pierce (1867 - 1914) is best known for his research on the senses and perception - most of which is published in this book. He received his doctorate in 1899 from Harvard and began teaching at Smith College the following year as a Professor of Psychology. Bound in brown cloth boards with gilt title to spine. Browning, light wear, and stain to spine. The interior rear hinge has been repaired with green binders tape. Light browning to margins, else clean interior. Small closed tear to fore-edge of page 167. Leonard Carmichael's copy (1898 - 1973) with his ownership signature in pencil to front endpage.
