Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Near Fine. 1977. Genuine leather hardcover, deep red with gilt decorations, quality paper, satin endpapers and bound-in bookmark, 512 pages. THIS IS NOT A PUBLISHER'S TRADE BOOK, OR A BOOK-ON-DEMAND. Author Stribling writes with sharp social satire, but also with documentary realism. He's unsparing in his p…ortrayal of Southern society—its pretensions, its cruelties, and its contradictions. The story is about race and power in the post Civil War South, moral compromise in the pursuit of status, and lingering legacy of slavery. A wonderful, well-written, timeless story. Collectible. Condition: Scratches and rubbing to gilt on edges due to filing/handling else overall Near Fine. Winner of Pulitzer Prize in 1933. Some dealers offering the same book claim it's in Fine condition, but it was read and is now used. Our copy has never been read. Note: We are a well-established, well-respected, ethical book dealer in business since 1991. We describe the condition of our books thoroughly and honestly, so you'll know exactly what you will be receiving when you order. We ship promptly. Howard Rogers (illustrator).
