Joseph Addison was a British writer and politician. He was the eldest son of Lancelot Addison. His name is usually remembered alongside that of his long-standing friend Richard Steele, with whom he founded The Spectator magazine. His simple prose style marked the end of the mannerisms and conventional classical images of the 17th century. Addison is also famous for his play Cato, a Tragedy, written in 1712. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Boards and spine worn, scattered foxing throughout, offsetting to the engravings and title pages, and tears at the top of the preliminaries, but overall still very good with the binding sound and tight and the gilt on the spine remaining bright. Reprints the entire run of *The Spectator* No. 1 through No. 635.
