Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This book addresses the role of social capital in promoting rural and local development. The recent financial and economic crises have exposed the European Union (EU) to an increased risk of social exclusion and poverty, which are now at the heart of its economic, employment and social agenda with explicit reference to rural and marginal areas (Europe 2020). The authors' work from the notion that rural development is not imposed from the 'outside', but depends also on endogenous factors, namely local cultural and ecological amenities, eco-system services, and economic links with urban areas which expand rural opportunities for innovation, competitiveness, employment and sustainable development. Social capital is of paramount importance because it helps build networks and trusting relations among local stakeholders in the public and private spheres, and supporting the enhancement of governance of natural resources in rural areas.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -The social dimension of development studies has gained significance in recent decades. Civil society and social capital are, therefore, increasingly more examined as these concepts are widely discussed; and there are not many empirical country specific studies of them. Accordingly, this book focuses on local participation and social capital in women s development projects in Turkey, with a central question revolving around the influence of internal vs. external financing on local participation in women s development projects of NGOs. In order to examine the role of financing in local participation in women s development projects, theoretical arguments focusing on development, civil society, women s development and social capital are assessed to demonstrate the importance of local participation for sustainable development and women s development projects for empowerment of women. Furthermore, an overview of Turkey s history from the angle of civil society and women s movement is presented to provide a background for the evolution of women s NGOs and their work in Turkey. A sample of donors and externally and internally funded women s development projects is selected as cases. 188 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - International schools in urban areas of Less Developed Countries exist as oases of educational privilege. Paradoxically, they often seek to address educational disadvantage through an ethos of global citizenship and International Baccalaureate CAS Projects. This research study uses social capital theory to explore one such project in urban India involving a local educational development NGO. The analysis reveals that there are benefits of cooperation for both resource rich and resource poor partners alike. Awareness of motivations underlying such projects may help reduce power imbalances within a traditional donor-recipient relationship and release more latent resources within the network. This book should be helpful to international school leaders and educational development professionals as well as researchers seeking to shed some light on the human and organisational motivations that act as the catalyst for social capital exchange.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - The aim of this book was to determine the effect of community participation on social capital in Cameroon. If we consider that local development is a process by which a community manages to coordinate itself around objectives that fall within its territorial jurisdiction, it is clear that the real complexity linked to the emergence of a community lies in its ability to strengthen the links between the actors involved. As part of this research, we used data from the Afrobaromètre Round7 survey conducted in 2018 among 1202 individuals. The use of a recursive probitbivariate incorporating the constraint of full-time work supply enabled us to show that community involvement significantly amplifies relations of trust and solidarity in Cameroon. Hence, considering that high social capital is an expedient for the economic and social development of Cameroonian localities.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - A great diversity in rural development policies has occurred within the last half a century. In recent decades, however, the vital role of public participation has been recognized increasingly by most development experts and authorities. The main philosophy of participation is to use collective thoughts and ideas in the decision-making process. For the community development it is needed that local people's participation in governance is compulsory. While governance organization should take serious actions for the rural areas. Policy makers and government agents need to focus on these areas for the welfare and development. Area-based rural development structures are seen to foster civic participation. It is based upon the assumption that sustainable development can be achieved only through the involvement of all stakeholders. Public participation became a statutory requirement in preparation of development plans. The motivation of the people for their development is halfway there. One of the common vehicles for community development includes voluntary community organizations such as local groups, youth groups, sporting clubs, and local resident associations.

Neuware -This book addresses the role of social capital in promoting rural and local development. The recent financial and economic crises have exposed the European Union (EU) to an increased risk of social exclusion and poverty, which are now at the heart of its economic, employment and social agenda with explicit reference to rural and marginal areas (Europe 2020).The authors' work from the notion that rural development is not imposed from the ¿outside¿, but depends also on endogenous factors, namely local cultural and ecological amenities, eco-system services, and economic links with urban areas which expand rural opportunities for innovation, competitiveness, employment and sustainable development. Social capital is of paramount importance because it helps build networks and trusting relations among local stakeholders in the public and private spheres, and supporting the enhancement of governance of natural resources in rural areasSpringer-Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg 540 pp. Englisch.
