"Sales/posting to the USA suspended". Card covers, B format, xv/216pp. Light wear to card edges, first signature (or stitched section) a little loose but "hanging in there". A good copy. This book presents the lives of a dozen rebels and redicals of nineteenth century Australia: Aborigines, convicts, democrats, republicans, wome…n demanding equal rights, socialists, revolutionaries. All of them reisted the dominant beliefs and policies of their time. Most were little known; their lives have been peiced together from fragments for they did not gain the prominence or wealth which leaves records and commemorations. Other more public figures have been included because their radical side is often palyed dow, denying them teir place as critics of society. These lives, their struggles, victories and defeats, teaverse the history of nineteenth century Australia in a way which challenges the reader to remember that the telling of history is never neutral.
