This volume covers from July 1943 to March 1944 when Bomber Harris waged an air offensive against the Ruhr, carried out fire raids on Hamburg, and nightly sent a mass of bombers to attack Berlin and other targets simultaneously with the aim of destroying Hitler's war machine. It is a matter o f debate whether the heroic effort conducted at great cost contributed materially to the ultimate victory or was a misguided sacrifice of thousands of aircrew and a misdirected assault on the German civilian population. However there is no doubting the courage of RAF and Dominion, American and Polish and Czech and Dutch bomber crews.
