Paperback. Condition: Good. Quaker Perspectives in Higher Education is composed of articles drawn from the first fourteen issues of Quaker Higher Education (QHE), FAHE's biannual, scholarly journal, which the association launched in 2007. Initiated as a vehicle for promoting communication among Quaker scholars, QHE has become a popular venue for sharing many of the finest papers and write-ups of presentations from the annual FAHE conference, products that previously too often disappeared following each conference's conclusion. It also solicits articles addressing a wide variety of topics and issues of interest to Friends. QHE is published in April and November of each year. This book is the first in a planned series sponsored by Friends Association for Higher Education. Each volume in the series will focus on Quaker contributions to a specifc academic discipline, such as history or economics, or to a broader academic area, such as the humanities or sciences. There will also be occasional volumes addressing Quaker academicians' contributions to important concerns such as peacemaking, commerce and environmental stewardship. While numerous texts and journals have explored the lives and works of Friends who are academicians - for example Rufus Jones, Howard and Anna Brinton, Kenneth and Elise Boulding and many others - collective Quaker contributions within the various academic disciplines have been largely ignored. This series will address that gap. Royalties from Quaker Perspectives in Higher Education, and all other books in the Friends Association for Higher Education series, will accrue to FAHE to support the association's ongoing publishing efforts.…

Paperback. Condition: Good. The Parrys left England to practice their Quaker religion without ridicule. They found their home in New Hope, Pennsylvania, where they went on to become one of the region's most illustrious families. Follow two generations of the Parry family, spanning a period of one hundred years from the pre-Revolutionary War to the end of the American Civil War. They rely on their knowledge, skills, and steadfast determination to leave a lasting impact on both New Hope and Philadelphia. The family derived much of its strength from Benjamin Parry, a multifaceted entrepreneur, inventor, and community leader who dominated New Hope for more than half a century. His efforts make the town the industrial capital of Bucks County in the early nineteenth century. The story continues with Benjamin's son, Oliver, who becomes an intrepid pioneer of Philadelphia's Spring Garden District when the city was expanding its boundaries westward in the mid-nineteenth century. Gain a unique perspective of the nation's first one hundred years as it struggles to form a more perfect union by examining the hard work of just one family whose shared sense of destiny helped the nation achieve its potential. Be inspired by The Parrys of Philadelphia and New Hope.…

Paperback. Condition: Very Good. .an important ecumenical series. Methodist Recorder Quaker Spirituality: Selected Writings edited and introduced by Douglas V. Steere preface by Elizabeth Gray Vining .as I was thus humbled and disciplined under the cross, my understanding became more strengthened to distinguish the language of the pure Spirit which inwardly moves upon the heart. John Woolman (1720-1772) Simplicity in forms of worship, opposition to violence, concern for social injustice, and, above all, a faith in the personal and corporate guidance of the Holy Spirit are characteristics of the spirituality of the people called Quakers. From their beginnings in the seventeenth-century England until today, the Quakers have attempted to radically live out their belief in the presence of God's spirit within their hearts. In this book, Douglas V. Steere, the distinguished T. Wistar Brown Professor Emeritus from Haverford College, has assembled a comprehensive collection of Quaker writings. Included are selections from the journals of George Fox and John Woolman, Thomas Kelly's Testament of Devotion, and the works of Caroline Stephen and Rufus Jones.…

Paperback. Condition: Good. This book is an Inspiration of Life from photographs. As a photographer, I roam around and take pictures of many things. Some of those pictures contain images where I see something in them. As a Poet, this sparks my imagination, myMuse, to poetically interpret that something into action. So a poem is born. I write about it, and ask the readers if they see it too. That is the basis of this book of Animated Stills. The stills part comes from the photograph. The animated portion is where poet brings the perceived image to life for the reader. Animated stills are poems where inanimate objects take on human, animal, or spirit forms, traits, or articles. They are derived from Photographs I have taken, that have moved me to write a poem associated with it. I believe that photography and poetry go together well. One form paints a visual picture while the other creates a poetic image. Together, the synergy becomes very powerful. At least, that is what I hope I have achieved here. Here is an excerpt from Poem 26. Firebird, from which the cover photo is taken.…
