First edition. A lovely copy of this 3D programme / Menu for the celebration of the 1963 awards, held on the 11th March 1963. The gold and pink pop up card features a representation of the award on the cover. inside is an illustrated design in gold white and pink. This has sections for the wine list, the evening menu and the programme. The award for Outstanding Instrumental Record for Dancing, was presented to Joe Loss. The poor chap, despite being the reward recipient, had provide two sets with his orchestra for "General dancing." The event was televised, and in a nice reversal, 45 minutes of the programme at the theatre was taken up with being filmed for the BBC. In excellent condition. There is a tiny line of loss to the pink where the 3-d cutting has affected it. Fractional creasing to folds in the pop up. Otherwise excellent. The Carl Alan Awards are presented by Theatre Dance Council International, which was founded in 1958 as a forum for the teachers of dance. The Awards are named after Carl Heimann and Alan B. Fairley, the joint chairmen of Mecca Dancing Ltd, and are regarded as 'the Oscars of the World of Dance'. Recipient Joe Loss was one of the most popular UK band leaders of the 20th century. In 1930 he formed his first professional band, which he continued to lead until 1990. In 1933, he made his first broadcast for the BBC. His recording career began the same year, working with artists like Vera Lynn and Chick Henderson. He was awarded the OBE for services to music in 1978. 21cm x 12.5cm closed. .
