Hardback. Dust Jacket. Book in Very Good condition, Dust Jacket Very Good. Green cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine 90 Pages followed by eight pages of Pen Pictures of some Union Officers in North Wales. Eight (8) illustrations. Previous owner's signature and private library stamp to front end papers. and rear of title page. Pictorial Dust Jacket designed by E Meirion Roberts is slightly chipped to edges This is the second book by Huw T Edwards. His first - 'Tros Y Tresi' written in Welsh - was his autobiography in which he describes the vicissitudes of life from his boyhood days in a remote cottage on a Caernarfonshire hillside, through the realities of unemployment to trade union leadership and leadership of a nation in his capacity as Chairman of the Council of Wales. In this book he gives a history of the growth of the Transport and General Worker's Union in North Wales. Yet it is not a history - but a gripping, scintilating story of human endeavour, shorn of heroics, to better the lot of man. The book is a tribute to the creators, leaders and membership of trade unionism in North Wales and to efficient, enlightened management.

After being severely wounded during WW1, he was appointed the first chair of the Council for Wales and Monmouthshire in 1949. He was in favour of a Welsh Parliament but initially did not support the Parliament for Wales campaign in the early 1950s although later he did join the campaign. He opposed the decision to flood the Tryweryn valley to create a reservoir to service Liverpool. In 1956 he bought the Welsh language periodical 'Y Faner' in order to save it from liquidation. In 1958 he resigned from the Council for Wales and in 1959 he left the Labour Party to join Plaid Cymru although he returned to the Labour fold in 1965. He was the first President of the Welsh Language Society. This is his memoir of support for the Transport and General Workers Union for Wales. Quite a scarce book.
