This book is written about the re-building of Coventry Cathedral after its bombing during 1940. The first edition, second impression. The title Phoenix At Coventry refers to the building rising from the ashes, which has been built next to the remains of the old building. The old building was kept in ruins as a garden of remembrance, with the new Cathedral built alongside. The author of this work, Basil Spence was the architect for the new Cathedral and this work discusses the different stages for the rebuild. He was later knighted for his work on the Cathedral. With a foreword by the fifth Bishop of Coventry. Illustrated throughout, with forty five plates consisting of colour and monochrome plates of the interiors, exteriors, plans and the site. In a half morocco signed binding by Sangorski & Sutcliffe. Binder's stamp to verso of front endpaper. Externally, excellent with minor shelfwear, spine is slightly faded. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and very clean. Fine. book.
