Volume two is illustrate…d with a frontispiece, vignette title page, and sixteen portrait plates. Collated complete. A collection of memoirs, biographical sketches, and historical anecdotes of important dramatists and actors of the time. With essays on Edmund Kean, Charles Young, and Mrs. Harriet Coutts, amongst others. Written by William Oxberry, an English actor who wrote extensively on the theatre, and was a printer and publisher. Edited by his wife, Catherine Elizabeth Oxberry, after his death in 1824. In the original half calf binding with marbled boards. Externally, sound with rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Light fading to the spine with the odd mark to the boards. Light loss to the head of the spine of volume one with minor loss to the head and tail of volume two. Small cracks to the joints. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd spot or handling mark. Minor age toning to the extremities. Light spotting to the tissue guards. Previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown. Good. Not Stated (illustrator). book.
