Knowledge of calculus of several variables is a prerequisite. Much of the theory of differential equations cannot be explained properly without the aid of linear algebra, from which definitions, structures, & results are given in Chapters 3 through 6. The attraction of studying differential equations is to better understand and predict real world processes through mathematical models.
