Item description from seller

Ordinary Differential Equations: A First Course, Second Edition by Fred Brauer & John A. Nohel (1973 Hardcover without Dust Jacket) This textbook was designed to be for an introductory course on differential equations (college sophomore/junior). Knowledge of calculus of several variables is a prerequisite. Much of the theory of differential equations cannot be explained properly without the aid of linear algebra, from which definitions, structures, & results are given in Chapters 3 through 6. The attraction of studying differential equations is to better understand and predict real world processes through mathematical models. Many examples are explained in text (and through "problems for the reader" in the text) so the student can begin to build effective use of mathematical models. ix + 470pp. Promoted as a volume in UNIVERSITY MATHEMATICS SERIES, the authors are listed as the only Consulting Editors for that series. The work of Fred Brauer (1932–2021) broke new ground in several areas of mathematical population biology, especially mathematical epidemiology and population management. John Adolph Nohel (1924-1999) was an American mathematician noted for his development of textbooks on differential equations. Hardcover has varying shades of green cloth boards but no dust jacket. Prior owner's name on ffep (adds no value). Some student worksheets of problems laid-in. Interior is tight, clean, and text is unmarked. Condition is well above standard. Copyright 1973. Dates of earlier editions not given. Printed in U.S.A. Printline indicates this copy from 1st printing of this stated 2nd edition. Benjamin catalog: 31208. ISBN: 0-8053-1208-0. LCCN: 72-9313. MSR = US $11.95. Thanks for looking.
