The author details the technical and musical characteristics of each instrument in the orchestra, with a focus on their combination, contrast, colour, balance of tone, and… accompaniment of voices. The author draws from a wide range of classical music to demonstrate his ideas. The book also includes insights into the practicalities of scoring, such as how to arrange a score, the best keys for different instruments, and how to notate special effects.
