La secentesca traduzione del Davanzati, "la più meravigliosa che sia mai stata fatta" (Foscolo), rende egregiamente, seppure in uno stile denso di arcaismi e fiorentinismi, l'estrema concisione e secchezza del testo tacitiano, talora reso ancora più stringato dell'originale.
