Bright silver titles to spine. Clipped dustjacket is lightly bumped and rubbed to extremities with a handful of very small chips and tears. Handful of small abrasions and stains to the front wrap. Now protected in archival brodart jacket. One of Norway's most accomplished explorers Nansen proposed locking a ship in the pack ice and letting it drift across the polar seas and then? gave it a go. Lord Edward Shackleton was the son of famed explorer Ernest Shackleton.

Fridtjof Nansen was the first to cross Greenland and later succeeded in proving that an ice locked ship would drift with the ocean current as he crossed the Arctic Ocean. Edward Shackleton, himself no stranger to heroics of polar exploration, greatly admired Nansen and here writes affectionately and authoritatively of his Arctic hero.
