Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book, an uproarious 18th-century comedy, is a satire reflecting the social and economic priorities of the merchant class in 18th-century England. Through exaggerated and farcical situations, the author skewers characters who prioritize wealth over family and personal fulfillment. Originally performed as a play, the book retains its lively wit, wordplay, and physical comedy to present a hilariously absurd story that ridicules society's excesses and human greed. Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is a satirical comedy that critiques and mocks miserliness. Penned by one of the pioneers of English comedy, it follows the life and tribulations of Lovegold, a stingy miser, who despite being wealthy, is so loath to spend a penny, he lives in self-imposed poverty. When Lovegold sets his sights on securing a young woman as his bride not for her beauty or kindness, but because he has heard rumors of her wealth, he employs an intermediary, Lappet, to help him charm his way into her good graces. However, Lappet has plans of her own and works against Lovegold's interest, forcing him to examine his choices and eventually leading to a satisfactory resolution. This comedic play on avarice, money, and relationships explores timeless themes, making it a classic in the literary repertoire.
