Very good copy in original publisher's cloth with dust jacket. Sacks both revolutionized and popularized the understanding of the malleability of the brain. Humboldt, the globe-trotting natural scientist looking for natural laws, might be the best parallel to Sacks. This copy is in very good condition in a very good dust jacket with intact price on the front inside flap. There is a small ping in the upper edge of the front board which carries over very lightly to the first couple of pages.

JANNETTA on the front free endpaper. A lovely copy to boot of the 1970 stated 1st printing of Oliver Sacks's 1st published book, this scholarly examination of the evoluton of migraines. Clean and Near Fine (with just the faintest touch of light soiling along the top and fore-edges) in a crisp, price-intact ($8.50), Near Fine to Fine dustjacket. All but pristine in its original iteration. The author's first literary output in what would of course evolve into a remarkable career in both the fields of neurology and the history of science. Truly a collector's copy. Signed.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Signed, dated ("3/10/97"), and inscribed by Sacks on front flyleaf. Second printing, in the same format and dust jacket as the first edition of 1970. Blue cloth, in dust jacket. Octavo, 8.75 x 5.75 in. 298pp. The celebrated neurologist's first book, written while working at a headache clinic in the Bronx. Sacks undertook the work after an amphetamine-fueled reading of a rare 19th century migraine treatise by Edward Liveing--an experience so transportive that, decades later in The New Yorker, Sacks would write, "At times, I was unsure whether I was reading the book or writing it." Inspired, he determined to become the "Liveing of our time," and completed the first draft of Migraine in a mere nine days--only to swear off amphetamines once and for all. Moderate shelf-wear and soiling to the bookcloth, particularly the spine panel. Former owner's name and address penned on the front pastedown. Some light spotting to the top and upper fore-edge of the textblock. The unclipped jacket shows minor rubbing/soiling and light crumpling at the spine ends and tips. A very good (-) copy in a quite presentable jacket. Inscribed by Author(s).
