Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. A near fine copy, in a very good dust jacket, of the first edition. The red cloth binding is clean, with strong gilt spine lettering, minimal wear, and sharp corners. The binding is solid with no weakness or cracking to the hinges. The contents are clean and bright and, other than a previous owner's bookplate and a small bookseller's stamp to the front pastedown, there are no ownership or any other kinds of markings. The distinctive red and yellow dust jacket is neatly clipped, but is otherwise fully intact. It shows minimal edgewear - just a little soiling and a general dustiness. It has been neatly and invisibly strengthened from behind with tape. All is now protected in a removable mylar cover. From the blurb: "With 'The Mendelman Fire' are two groups of stories: 'Good Business with Sentiment' and 'A Village Like Yours'. The stories in the first group, which take place in or around London, are explained by the title; those in the second are set in the Russian village from which Wolf Mankowitz's grandfather came, and reveal a new aspect of his extraordinary talent".

Boards are near fine (having been well protected by the jacket) with minor pushing to a couple of corners and a little pushing/rubbing to head/tail of spine (not major). Pages are generally clean and the binding is tight. End-papers a bit tanned. Top of pages slightly dusty. There is foxing to page edges, tops and bottoms. No other faults. A solid copy.
