This famous bookshop was opened by John Greene, bookseller and librarian. Greene established his lending library in 1843. It subsequently became 'Greene's Bookshop' which operated at this address in Clare Street until May 2007. It moved to premises in Sandyford industrial estate until the summer of 2012 when it ceased trading.

Downgrade to "Very Good" due poor storage causing loss of dark green color on rear board of Vol. II (15%). Slight fading to both volumes plus moderate foxing on both frontispieces and title pages. First English Edition, published simultaneously alongside French Edition.Rebound in cloth, with original binding rebacked to boards.Illustrations include two frontispieces to both volumes, depicting Napoleon Bonaparte as well as Lafayette.This is a complete two volume set of the memoir of Guillaume-Mathieu Dumas, which contains the author's personal experiences and reflections regarding the French Revolution, as well as the French Empire and the Restoration.This work was published posthumously by the author's son, with a dedication from the author stating that he wished to provide true testimony for these historical events.Contents include many notable conflicts and general anecdotes, such as 'Entrance into the Service in 1773', 'Visit of General Washington', 'The First Troubles', and 'General Lafayette Accused'.Guillaume-Matthieu Dumas (1753-1837) was a French general. This copy differs from the AAS copy in two respects. 1) The advertisements are bound at the back of volume 1, not volume 2. 2) The error in paging in volume 1 noted for the AAS copy is not present here.
