Der Schweizer Maler schuf Gemälde in verschiedenen Stilrichtungen vom Impressionismus bis zu abstrakten Bildern, auch Wandgemälde und Zeichnungen etc., so entstanden u.a. hunderte kolorierter Zeichnungen als Illustrationen zu Ernest Hemingways "D…er alte Mann und das Meer". Zu seinen Förderern zählten der Schweizer Reformpädagoge Han Conray und der Berliner Kunsthändler Paul Cassirer. 1957 erkrankte Gubler psychisch schwer, so daß er mehrfach behandelt werden mußte und sich schließlich selbst in die Obhut einer psychiatrischen Klinik begab, wo er 1963 starb. Sein dort entstandenes Spätwerk, das lange von seinen Erben zurückgehalten wurde, wurde erstmals 2014 in einer Ausstellung gezeigt. Sprache: de.
