The pseudonymous author's debut mystery novel, set primarily in France, where the protagonist goes to investigate a mysterious change in shipments of iodine to the U.S., which his two brothers use in their business to manufacture an iodized breakfast cereal. Ted Weaver, the hero of the tale, also appeared in the author's next novel, "A Matter of Accent" (1943)arce. (The book is stated as a "second printing," although that's probably a carryover from the original (Dodd, Mead) publisher's plates.)
