Light edge wear and some spine slant, remains Very Good. The contents includes 12 chapters discussing various manure sources ("Excreted Matters", "Vegetable S…ubstances") plus an Appendix. The front endpaper has fountain pen writing and some light soiling, otherwise the contents remain bright. This copy is from a 19th Century private lending institution, the Mercantile Library of New York (Astor Place). There is a handwritten number and Mercantile Library stamp on the title page and some of the internal pages. There are no other indications of the library's ownership.

Booth in Philadelphia, assisting in developing a new method of refining gold. Morfit held the position of the first professor of applied chemistry at the Maryland Institute from 1854 to 1858 and was a fellow of both the Chemical Society of London and the Institute of Chemistry. His notable works include Applied Chemistry in the Manufacture of Soaps and Candles (1847), Chemical and Pharmaceutical Manipulations (1848), and Perfumery, Its Manufacture and Use (1852 to 1855). Morfit's expertise in chemical applications to agriculture and industry is evident in his extensive publications, which have significantly influenced these fields.
