No dustjacket, Light brown hardback binding with ornate light impressing to boards, bronzing to spine, some light browning to boards/small marks. Wear with small splits to spine-ends, 1cm slit to top front hinge, boards' corners are rounded with small creases. Light wear to edges, foxing/edge staining to frontispiece & rear, page-edges are a bit age-darkened. Binding slightly pulled in one or two-places but very sound. Text has a light wave to pages & a few small blotches/foxings to margins. Reasonably clean & in nice condition throughout.

Thomas Mawe was the gardener to the Duke of Leeds. John Abercrombie was a gardener, a vegetarian, and a prolific writer about gardens. Abercrombie had worked in the Kew Gardens, and for successive wealthy patrons. The first edition of this work appeared in 1767, and, tho written by Abercrombie, gave credit to Mawe, who only endorsed it. With five engraved plates, including a portrait frontispiece of Abercrombie standing in a garden holding a spade. This 19th century edition was enlarged and improved by Richard Forsyth.
