"They had good reason to be proud and better reason to be afraid, all twelve of them, for, though they had fought their way, game by game, up the line of teams entered for the polo tournament, they were meeting the Archangels that afternoon in the final match" So begins Rudyard Kipling's wonderful tale "The Maltese Cat," which has all the verve and vigor associated with the author's best-loved stories. Set in India, this account of an "underdog" team of polo ponies pitted against a superior force will keep its readers on the edge of their saddles. The Maltese Cat, a small gray polo pony, plays the starring role, leading the Wuddars' team down the dusty playing field. Preface by His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. Introduction by Lowell McAllister, Director, Frederic Remington Art Museum. An Appendix provides the rules for playing polo.
